Muntigunung

THE HIKING TRIP
I FELL IN LOVE WITH

DECEMBER 2016

6 : 38 am

The journey began at dawn. I got picked up in the morning by car from where I was staying. We drove for a while until we reached the base line that marked our starting point. We trekked through wild vegetation passing villages and hills whilst learning about the challenges of the people faced everyday before this organization was founded.

8 : 45 AM

A quick pit stop before continuing on...

It was one stunning breakfast scenery.

10 : 00 AM

Trekking on ... Through the wilderness untouched by the hand of man over Muntigunung. That was where I fell in love with hiking. I highly recommend this opportunity to experience the award winning 3 hour trek through breathtaking landscapes and discovering a nearly untouched side of Bali.

10 : 30 AM

Approaching our destination ... Hours later we're nearly there. Along the way I've learned more about the project there that has been helping the inhabitants of this rural region get access to clean water, create job opportunities, and more. Once we reached the destination, I got the opportunity to see first hand the employment the social enterprise was creating through the production facilities where they produce hammocks, baskets, bags, and cashew nuts.

A Special Thank You

Daniel Elber founded the Swiss-Indonesian non-profit organization Muntigunung Community Social Enterprise, Bali in 2014. The organization urges and supports sustainable developments in destitute regions of Bali - Muntigunung being their primary focus. This region of Bali is known for their reputation of sending women and children to be beggars in the streets of Ubud and other regions in southern Bali. In order to reduce this issue, the organization collaborated with Dian Desa - the most reputed development organization in Indonesia - to solve this problem. The organization provided a solution by bringing jobs to them through different projects. The serenity of this hike with a breathtaking view of Lake Batur and the Indian Ocean was unimaginable. The solitude and silence reveal a sense of comfort in oneself where you become one with nature.
