"SELAMAT DATANG"

Fun Facts about Bali

  1. Bali consists of 3 islands: Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan, & Nusa Ceningan.
  2. Bali's Mounts Agung and Batur are 2 towering peaks that are far from dormant being actively volcanic,
  3. 80% of Bali's economy depends on tourism.
  4. Kopi Luwak from Bali is the world's most expensive coffee.
  5. Due to Nyepi, a Hindu celebration observed mainly in Bali, the entire island falls silent for a day where businesses are closed in which even the airport will be shut down. The "Day of Silence" is seen as an opportunity for self-reflection, and its observation is enforced by pecalang (local security officers) in which beaches and streets are closed to all - including tourists.
  6. Bali is in a "coral triangle". The Coral Triangle is sitting right in the middle of the world's richest waters for corals. It is considered the "Amazon of the Seas" for its marine biodiversity. Around 600 species of coral can be found here along with turtles and more than 2000 species of fish including tuna - a major food source for millions of local communities.

"Gap year" 2016

18/09/16 - 18/01/17

After having looked for a job/internship for months

and it not working out for one reason or another,

i decided it was time to step out of my comfort zone.

I spent 4 months in the north of bali

in a small remote and secluded location

called Bondalem.

I did volunteer work there

working monday to friday teaching english

to the children of the local community

with ages raging from 5 to 16 year olds.

A big shoutout and thank you

to Komang Adi and Ciara

who were there supporting me along the way.

A BIG thank you especially to gisela, Rainer, and jeremy

and to the wonderful people i met along the way

who made me feel welcomed and right at home.

Aside from teaching, I had loads of free time

which i used to self reflect and come up with

new projects and head out on little adventures

which I've documented through photography.

Here's the final result.

Enjoy x
